Stussy Drop Hints at Nike Air Huarache Colab Retro via Lookbook
Models in recent Spring 2021 lookbook blatantly rocked what looked to be box-fresh pairs of their classic collaboration. Given the lofty heights of hype the influential streetwear brand is occupying right now, this cheeky reveal was not unnoticed by sneakerheads new and old to the game. For the long-time (some would say long-suffering) collectors, these images rewind the clock all the way back to the year 2000.
Firstly, a bit of knowledge for the young’uns. These two Air Huarache colourways, the ‘Desert Oak’ and ‘Dark Olive’, were in fact Stussy’s first-ever Nike collaboration, spawning a 20-plus-year and counting partnership. The lifestyle-friendly palettes were a massive departure from the neon-drenched OG colourways (with the exception of the nubuck and leather LEs, of course), using a combo of nubuck and nylon on the uppers. Original pairs experienced another peak in market value circa 2013-2014 when UK celebrity Joey Essex posted the ‘Dark Olive’ on Twitter, rocketing prices towards the four-digit mark (in GBP too!). Seven years on, Stussy’s top-of-mind presence and streetwear dominance will likely see this colab retro return to those crazy times.
Alas, sneaker forum-era heads and opportunistic resellers will be vying for what will likely be a massive undersupply versus an overwhelming demand of this retro. Internet whispers project a release some time this month, but neither Stussy nor Nike have made the official announcement. Stay tuned.
