Massive 1970s and 80s Vintage Sneaker Haul Surfaces on eBay
A vintage sneaker collector has listed over 65 pairs of OG runners dating back to the 1970s and 80s on eBay, ranging from classic models to obscure curiosities. The lots are ending in a few days and it looks like there are deals to be had, as all listings start at 99c with no reserve.
Mike Monahan aka has a particular penchant for sneakers from this era as they represent the running boom that took the US and the rest of the world by storm. Highly collectable models include original Waffle Trainers and period , which have always been key items for vintage enthusiasts. Many other pairs are more likely to raise intrigued eyebrows, such as Kinney NBA shoes featuring upside-down ‘Swooshes’ and a number of smaller labels offering runners bearing three- and four-stripe branding.
‘I hung on to them because I was considering opening a storefront museum dedicated to rare vintage sneakers and brands. With rent prices being too high there was no good business model to move forward so I decided to put them back out there into the world,’ says Monahan on the auction.
