The Roswell Rayguns Invade the Nike Air Raid
Fictional basketball team, the Roswell Rayguns, have re-emerged from their Area 51 bunker to continue their infiltration of classic sneakers. First seen on the SB Dunk back in 2005, the extra-terrestrial characters returned on the skate shoe , and recently were spotted on an . Now, their basketball comeback is being bolstered with an upcoming PE.
The strapping hunk of a 90s basketball shoe has been rendered in the Raygun's colours of black and orange, with some white thrown in for good measure. There’s an interesting material mix happening on the uppers, which feature black brushed synthetic on the toe cap, eyestays, and heel counter, while orange adds contrast to the toe box. There’s more of that on the mesh mid panel and ankle collar, while woven textile beefs up the Air Raid’s distinct crossed straps, which are also orange.
So far, it’s a pretty zesty colourway. Key splashes of white on the laces and midsole help keep things balanced, and nods to the OG scheme. However, the real star of the show is the custom branding on these Air Raids. The Rayguns’ green basketball-head alien mascot takes over the woven tongue label, and the team name is printed on the insoles. Star details on the heel pull tab add to the celestial theme. Excellent.
