‘These Are Trash!’: Kyrie Irving Blasts the Nike Kyrie 8
Brooklyn Nets livewire has taken to Instagram to share his thoughts on the Kyrie 8, the 2016 NBA champion claiming to have had no hand in the design or marketing direction.
‘I have nothing to do with the design or marketing of the upcoming #Kyrie8, IMO these are trash! I have Absolutely nothing to do with them! Nike plans to release it without my okay regardless of what I say, so I apologize in advance to all of my sneaker heads and true supporters of the #KAI11 brand.’
Kyrie was responding to leaked images of the Kyrie 8, which emerged on the Internet via Instagram user k11kicks.
Considering he boasts one of the most impressive signature collections in the league, Kyrie’s reaction comes as a surprise to the industry, with Nike no doubt in damage control over the claims at the time of writing. Of course, it revisits the age-old question of just how involved athletes are in the decision-making process of their own signature lines. Recently, sneaker savant P.J. Tucker revealed the Immortality ‘Smoothie’ before the Finals MVP had even seen the shoe.
While we don’t yet have an official statement from Nike, keep it locked to Sneaker Freaker as this story evolves.
