At this particular point in time, it’s hard to say the Nike Dunk is back – because its current saturation makes it feel like it never actually left. Regardless of its looming omnipresence, the colour designers at Beaverton are very slowly venturing out of their two-toned comfort zones by tapping into some wilder concepts. Take, for example, this suede and leather Low that hunts for animal inspiration – not a new idea for Nike by any means (you can thank atmos for that) – and executes a clean colourway.

There’s been the ‘Beast Pack’ from circa 2006, and who could forget the ‘Daktari’ from 2003? Not to mention the ‘Ueno Panda’ that dropped in 2008. And there were definitely many more in the years since. So, Nike have no excuses but to nail this latest edition, which thankfully, they have. These Dunk Lows may look simple from a distance in their inoffensive cream and brown colourway, but a closer look at the suede overlays reveals a rather subtle and tasteful giraffe pattern. That’s also some very fluffy suede!

There is word there will be another animal-inspired colourway joining this Dunk herd, so keep an eye out on SF for news of that when it comes.
