Updated July 26, 2022: thisisneverthat and New Balance have officially announced the release date of their 1906 colab and its accompanying It'll be touching down at the TINT webstore on August 4, then hitting retailers roughly two weeks later on August 19. Korean label thisisneverthat are continuing their partnership with by rolling out another revived 2000s runner in the 1906. This pair continues the weathered look that’s gone from Instagram customiser trend to full-blown mainstream aesthetic. Given TINT have always been ahead of the curve, it’s reassuring to see their application here is still unique and not just a cookie cutter ‘spray ’n’ pray’ technique.
But first, a little recap of the . If that number sounds familiar, that’s because it was the year New Balance was founded, and it’s also the name of the top-end running shoe the brand released in late 2009. It would share some DNA with the OG – chiefly its midsole – but its luxurious successor has since returned in recent years, albeit with new cushioning. Now, the 1906 is taking after it and comes back in similar hybrid format, again sharing the same midsole as the 2002R, which is owed to the 860v2.
As for thisisneverthat’s contribution, their functional and tech-leaning aesthetic sees this 1906 dressed up in sporty mesh and synthetic, which, at first glance, looks to be its MO in its white and silver colourway. But a closer look sees brown overlays and faux dirt and rust details, making for a decidedly casual shoe.
The thisisneverthat x New Balance 1906 will release on August 19 at Overkill. An official announcement is yet to be made.
