Update May 5, 2023: According to Complex Sneakers, there is no Tom Sachs x Nike colab scheduled to release. ‘We are not working with Tom’s studio at this time and have no release dates planned,’ was said in a statement by Nike to Complex.

Rumours of a Tom Sachs x Nike collaboration hit the web yesterday, first reported by Sole Retriever, stating that there was a Mars Yard 3.0 slated for release in Holiday 2023. The blog did put a forwarning that the 'release may get canceled and scrapped altogether'. Now the rumours can be put to rest for this collaboration. Keep it locked to Sneaker Freaker for the latest.

After shocking allegations against Tom Sachs broke earlier this year, the creative has remained silent and out of the spotlight. The allegations accuse Sachs of creating a ‘destabilising’ and ‘scary’ workplace culture. One employee who anonymously spoke out said, ‘I saw him throw a sheet of steel across the room because someone had left it in the wrong place, and it almost hit a tank of welding gas. And when I went to the studio manager to say, “Hey, he threw something toward me,” her response was, “Well, at least he didn’t throw it at you; he used to throw stuff at people.”’

In response, Nike made a statement on the matter, stating they were ‘deeply concerned by the allegations’ and that they were ‘in contact with Tom and his studio seeking to better understand this citation and how these issues are being addressed.’ Both parties have received backlash over the situation, asserting these allegations are being taken much too lightly – which they absolutely have.

Since March 16, both entities have remained silent on the matter, but a new rumour has suggested that a Mars Yard 3.0 sneaker is in the works. These have been propelled by Sole Retriever, with them stating the sneaker will arrive later this year. However, they also note that ’this release may get canceled and scrapped altogether.’ A proposed style code has even been circulating via the source. It’s also worth noting that it seems further colourways of the General Purpose Shoe have been paused.

Considering how quickly Nike have dropped other signees on their roster, hopefully, they can handle this ongoing case in an adequate and honourable manner.
