New Kid on the Sneakerhead Movie Block: SNEAKS

Lace up and lock in sneakerheads, there’s an animated film on the way that is set to capture our cold, dead hearts. Packed with sneaker humour and a superstar cast, follows a pair of rare golden sneakers that gets ‘kick-napped’ by the Collector. The left and right get separated during the heist, with the brother Ty getting lost in the streets of NYC while the sister Maxine gets locked away in the Collector’s vault. These three main characters aren’t played by just anyone either, with Ty voice by Captain America himself, Anthony Mackie, Maxine by Chloe Bailey, and the Collector by Laurence Fishburne. Plenty of other characters are discovered in the journey to reunite the siblings, including JB, a worn-in sneaker who knows the streets better than his own sole and who is voiced by BAD BOY Martin Lawrence.
While only a brief snippet of the overall story, the trailer focuses on the idea that ‘your best life begins when you get out of your box’. There's even a couple of jokes taking aim at the collector sneakers that sit on shelves and are never worn. For instance, the kid who wins the shoes in the first place tries them on, and the first thing Ty says when they’re alone is, ‘Ah! A foot! He put his foot inside me!’
It’s not just the main cast that attracted big names either – the original music is by Grammy Award Winning Producer Mustard and there are cameos by Swae Lee, Macy Lee, Quavo, Bobbito Garcia and even skateboarding superstar . Bringing it all together is writer and director Rob Edwards, who is most known for his writing on The Princess and the Frog and Treasure Planet.
Check out the trailer above and get ready for SNEAKS to hit cinemas on April 18.
