Nike's Ekiden Collection Celebrates the Spirit of Long-Distance Relay Runners
have worked with runners since 1990, and they have just unveiled their 2025 pack. The Ekiden is a long-distance relay race that was first run in 1917 – the course ran between the old Japanese capital Kyoto and the modern-day capital Tokyo. Fittingly, Ekiden roughly translates into ‘station to station’. Nike release a pack every year to celebrate both this historic race and the athletes who participate. With next year’s pack, they turned up the heat.
The 2025 edition features four road racing models: the , Rival Fly 4, , and Each caters to a different day in a runner's split, meaning you can burn through the pavement in style no matter the emphasis. The pack is highlighted by the flames graphic, which is borrowed from the Air Streak Spectrum Plus from the Streak Series. Japanese Kanji characters also appear on the uppers, paying homage to the Ekiden heritage. The campaign will feature athletes from Chuo, Komazawa, Tokai, and Toyo universities who will all compete in the premiere Ekiden race in January 2025. The collection will also have a lifestyle apparel capsule alongside the runners.
The 2025 Ekiden Collection will arrive just in time to crush those New Year’s goals. The pack will release first in Japan on November 22 and then globally on December 4.
