Update November 24, 2022: The ‘Green/White’ New Balance 550 is returning to atmos on November 25! You can cop via their webstore.
Last year, the now creative director of Made in USA, Teddy Santis brought back the long-lost silhouette in collaboration with his brand . An enigmatic basketball model from 1989, it’s not a surprise it was such a hit in 2020, especially when aligned with the nostalgic aesthetic of ALD.
This year, the NB550 has become a general release weapon within NB’s large arsenal, and fans have been waiting for those coveted colab colourways to receive a GR release to avoid paying the exorbitant secondary market prices. A green pair has just surfaced, set to release this month, and while it’s not exactly the same as the Santis specials, it’s pretty similar!
In the OG 1989 vibe, this pair has been doused in white leather with perforations on either side alongside a contrast suede toe box. The heavy sole unit remains in a two-tone look with subtle branding hits going perfectly alongside the specialised lateral, medial and tongue logo hits. Other than the obvious Aimé Leon Dore branding, the other major difference with these is the shade of green. Teddy’s version features a darker hue while this pair boasts a lighter green. Nevertheless, they’ll both look equally as good on your feet.
Foot Locker have confirmed that this New Balance 550s will receive a release on June 24, but keep an eye out because they may also release on the NB webstore and select retailers like Footshop.
With the exciting appointment of Teddy Santis at New Balance not officially commencing until 2022, from him being at the helm next year.
