The adidas Climacool 1 Breezes Back into JD Sports

While one half of the globe gears up for GORE-TEX season, sneakerheads Down Under are preparing to do the opposite. With the warmer months on the way, there's no better time for a fresh breeze from the Three Stripes to come through . The provider of said breeze is of course the , which originally released in 2017 using their signature tech from 2002.

Ventilated, meshy uppers were nothing new to the sneaker scene in the early 2000s, but ClimaCool took sneaker ventilation a step further, providing a 360-degree solution to improve breathability. The ClimaCool also stripped back any unnecessary layers, but its big advantage came from the TPU vents that curved under the midfoot arch, allowing air to circulate from the underside too. Putting their stock into their creation, Team Trefoil launched the tech with their now-iconic ‘Feel the Breeze’ commercial (featuring a host of sports stars including David Beckham) and dropped a Coca-Cola colab ahead of that year’s World Cup.

Since then, the ClimaCool has retroed a couple of times and the technology has been woven into a number of adi products, both new and old. The Climacool 1 itself returned in 2017 but is now getting another run out with these two OG colourways – the ultra-sporty ‘White/Black/Red’ and its inversely-coloured counterpart – which are both steeped in nostalgia and retrofuturism at the same time.
