adidas Spezial: Boston
UPDATE: Our favourite pick of the Spezial releases is dropping on Saturday, 25th of October, alongside the rest of the collection. This is a must cop for adidas fans!
adidas hosted a major retrospective under the SPEZIAL banner last year, showcasing over 800 pairs of shoes supplied by UK collectors in London. Curated by Gary Aspden and Mike Chetcuti, SPEZIAL was such a success, they’ve buttered up for round two, heading north to Manchester as part of Design Week in mid-October. Upping the ante, they’ve also assembled an adidas Originals x SPEZIAL capsule collection of premium leisure wear and trainers that will hit the street later this year.
This version of the Boston runner is based on a Spanish-made shoe that generated a lot of interest at the first SPEZIAL exhibition. The sole unit (not midsole) is taken from the ZX710, married-up with a reworked Boston upper. The distance between the eyestay and the toe is significantly shorter than the Boston Super, adding a really sharp edge to the shoe’s profile. The tongue and toe padding was also removed to give the Boston SPZL an enhanced vintage quality.
