The adidas Superstar II Is an All-Star Addition to the Foot Locker Shelves

Few performance shoe designs are capable of holding court longer than a few seasons in the pro leagues. However, the adidas has not only continued to defy that logic, it has maintained its status as a sub-cultural force since it debuted way back in 1969. The hard-wearing rubber ‘shell’ toe, herringbone sole and deluxe leather construction was a symphony of sports style that dominated courts well into the 1970s. That’s where this story could have ended, but the Superstar simply could not be denied. The Superstar II is hitting shelves and is fit for street duty.

To use modern parlance, the Superstar is the first true ‘multi-hyphenate’ sneaker, one that has shape-shifted seamlessly through just about every prominent youth subculture over the last five decades. Music affiliations run from rap’s nascent boom-bap era to Missy Elliott’s golden reign and the Beastie Boys, whose vivid vision of retro adidas footwear inspired the 2000s sneaker boom. There’s even a nu-metal phase where Fred Durst-alikes rocked Shells alongside wallet chains and backwards snapbacks. A few years later, the Superstar was voted ‘one of the best skate shoes of all time’ yet still bossed the catwalk at Paris . High profile colabs with , , , , and among others have cemented the Shell’s cultural cachet.

In 2025, adidas are adding a new-and-improved addition to the Superstar line. At first glance, the Superstar II looks just as dope as the OG ever did, but an up-close inspection reveals the new-gen is that little bit sleeker and tidier in all key departments. The wavy sole is grippy AF and the curvy shell-toe is still the perfect exclamation point to one of the highest-selling adidas models of all time. The Superstar II has also been blessed with a little extra girth for a supremely comfortable and much more relaxed on-foot fit.

It’s sometimes easy to take even official legends for granted, but there’s no denying the Superstar II is the right shoe for right now. It’s available in an array of super clean white and classic black combos, though our favourite is the white edition with black toes and midsoles – a sweet and simple flip that is still eminently wearable but has that little extra something-something. Big ups and mad love to the adidas Superstar on more than 50 years of living large!
