Afew Create 'Rock Rubber 45s' Nike Air Force 1s for Bobbito Garcia
Few people have shaped the sneaker scene quite like Bobbito Garcia. His 2003 book Where'd You Get Those? exposed collector culture to the masses and was hugely influential in the rise of the modern sneakerhead. However, Bobbito is much more than just a sneaker connoisseur. Like hip-hop culture, he is multifaceted and multitalented, excelling not only in writing and sneaker culture, but also streetball, DJing and filmmaking.
To celebrate the release of Bobbito's autobiographical documentary Rock Rubber 45s, the crew from Düsseldorf's have teamed up with Benji Blunt, aka , to produce a very special pair of celebrating the life and talents of Kool Bob Love.
The white Uptowns come furnished with stitched Swooshes in five shades of blue as a nod to Bobbito's key elements, which are visibly represented on the heels. Hits of orange salute Bobbito's hometown ballers, the New York Knicks. 'Rock Rubber 45s' and 'Afew' branding have been applied to the left and right tongue tags respectively, and also work their way on to the insoles, which come decorated with the names of the doco's cast.
Sadly, the Afew Store x Bobbito Garcia x Nike Air Force 1 'Rock Rubber 45s' is a one-of-one custom and won't be for sale, but a limited run of 50 t-shirts featuring an image of Bobbito rocking AF-1s in the late 80s will go on sale on August 18 through Afew, with any remaining stock hitting their after the in-store launch.
Afew are also hosting a screening of the film on August 19 with Bobbito in attendance, followed by an after party where he'll work his magic on the decks. Check the for details.
