The ‘Black Cement’ has found its way to legend status largely due to its iconic elephant print. This print was designed by for the very first run of AJ3s in 1988 in response to request for a never-before-seen pattern. This first pack has gone down in history as the release that saved the entire Jordan line, as MJ was seriously contemplating leaving Nike before Tinker wooed him with the AJ3 in all its elephant-print glory. The 'Black Cement' AJ3 in particular is considered the quintessential Jordan, since it was worn by the NBA GOAT when he earned his first MVP nomination and featured in the cult campaign featuring Spike Lee as Mars Blackmon.
On the infamous colourway, the animal print is complemented by soft black leather uppers, a crispy white midsole, and both dark and light grey accents. Finally, red strikes on the tongue and eyelets giving it some extra pazazz. The 2024 retro comes replete with Nike Air branding on the heel, as it should.
