Delayed: Aleali May’s Drill Team Past Inspires the Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT ‘Califia’
and latest collaborative project – ‘Califia’ – is named after the fictional queen from fifteenth-century tale Las sergas de Esplandián, and features a special edition High Zoom CMFT and May’s first-ever apparel collection with Jordan Brand.
At its core, however, the collection has a more personal inspiration, drawing from the energy of spirit of May’s high school drill team. Making use of a green, blue and white palette, each piece is decorated with varsity-style chenille details, which will surely spark plenty of nostalgia. The modified AJ1 will be May’s fourth Jordan Brand sneaker, and features the now-familiar high-cut, ultra-thin collar. Additionally, the Swooshes come through in satin, while the traditional branding is given a chenille finish. As for the apparel, the collection consists of a varsity jacket, warm-up pants, a hybrid cropped tee layered under a mesh pinnie jersey, basketball shorts, and a t-shirt with a Michael Jordan graphic.
Ahead of the release of April 26 via Nike, be sure to check out the video above of May speaking to Shanora Holloway, her former high school drill coach.
