The Nike Air Max 1 Leather ‘Obsidian’ Prepares for Wider Release

It seems someone at Nike is definitely snooping around the archives. Following the all-leather mini-Swooshed Air Max 1 colourways that quietly released throughout 2020, here’s another edition that conspicuously recalls the ‘Leather SC’ series of the late-90s. Specifically, this ‘Obsidian’ makeup is about as close to a retro of the 1998 version (so, a retro of a retro – but not an OG retro, if you know what we mean) as sneakerheads will ever get, with a bonus mini-Swoosh.

Their weather resistance of these AM1s is improved substantially by sealing the foot in layers of leather – of course, some protective sprays will only further improve the environmental endurance of these retro runners. These smooth uppers follow OG Air Max 1 colour-blocking with panels of white and grey, while the namesake ‘Obsidian’ shows up on the mudguard, Swoosh, heel embroidery, and outsole accents.

Last year was a pretty good year for the AM1, despite it being a non-anniversary year – thanks to colourways like the ‘Obsidian’. And while this Air Max 1 Leather released in late 2020 and sold out in a flash from boutiques like Hanon, you can expect a wider drop on January 22 via Nike.
