The continues tearing into 2023 with new lifestyle-ready makeups that likely would’ve been performance colours during its 2008 debut run. While once the Japanese brand’s flagship runner, it now lives under the Sportstyle category, allowing for all sorts of aesthetic deviations that present new ideas yet still preserve the sporting essence of the OG.
This new release, in all of its metallic silver presence, can’t help but be compared to the JJJJound collaborations that have clogged moodboard IG pages since its mid-2022 release. That’s simply because this combination of shiny synthetic panels, slightly off-white mesh and contrasting accent colour has somehow become attributed to the collaborator extra-bored-inaire. Associations aside, this is a solid colourway regardless of GR status. Looking like something straight outta ’08 with its aforementioned specifications, the sporty mix meets that delicate balance between athletic posing and daily beater nonchalance. Let’s be real: ain’t nobody running in Kayano 14s in 2023, but its namesake GEL cushioning system delivers the only comfort in a cold, cold world.
