ASICS Add Purple to Some JJJJound-Esque GEL-Kayano 14s
have no reason to stop making as they’ve seemingly cracked the code to ensure its success. It’s simple: use metallic panels and crisp mesh reminiscent of its OG 2008 build, add lifestyle-ready colourways that wouldn’t have existed back then, and lean on the momentum built by 2022’s collaborations. This is effectively what this pair does here, but with a splash of purple.
The Kayano 14 sits at the intersection of Y2K style and the that has taken over TikTok and the real world by storm. It’s exceedingly period correct given its origin story, and remains a solid comfort choice behind the gloss and glamour of its modern context. The GEL bits in the midsole look resplendently squishy in their Grimace purple finish – without any horrifying aftermath. In fact, the boffins at ASICS actually tuned the K14 bringback to be even comfier than its initial run. Speaking of, one could probably smash out a quick 5K in these, but that’s an unlikely occurrence. They’ll be kept in pristine condition like most, and the fastest speed they’ll see is a gait quick enough for passersby to guess whether that actually was the aforementioned JJJJound colab (it’s not).
The new GEL-Kayano 14 is available now directly from ASICS in women’s sizing.
