These ASICS GEL-Lyte IIIs Sure Look Familiar
The may have pulled out all the stops for its 30th anniversary in 2022, but two years later, the party isn’t over. As one of the brand’s most popular models since its revival about 15 years ago, there certainly isn’t any shortage of colourways on the market. However, this latest duo featuring primary colour accents is certainly reminiscent of another iconic retro running shoe.
Newly arrived are these combos of densely woven mesh and suede. One pair opts for a mostly white upper, which is met by light beige overlays and Tiger Stripes – then the rest is flooded with vibrant red on the mudguards and lining. Similarly, the other adopts a similar combo, but swaps the beige for grey, and the remaining accents are vivid blue.
By now, the allusion of these colourways should be pretty clear to any sneakerhead well versed with distinct designs from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Let’s put it this way: 30 years ago, ASICS were engaged in a war of words with this other company, dropping such as ‘Just Doing It Doesn’t Do It’. Decades later, it seems this competition continues, albeit in a much friendlier nature than before.
These red and blue GEL-Lyte IIIs are available now directly from ASICS.
