ASICS Revive the GT-2160 for 2023
are capitalising on the runaway success of their 2000s designs by bringing back another period performance shoe in the form on the GT-2160. Now considered old enough to be classified as retro, the reissue sees pretty much one-to-one reproduction of all the details that made the model a success during its initial run. This time around, ASICS add a splash of colour and some collaborative clout to rekindle interest in the silhouette.
The GT-2160 actually debuted in 2011, technically classifying it outside of the Y2K parameters that govern the style. However, who’s counting? This model follows all of the aesthetic cues familiar to ASICS runners, from the metallic synthetic overlays and crisp airy mesh inserts on the toe box and sides. GEL pods pad out the heel for cushioned goodness, as was required of the GT’s stability offering. While that’s a little less relevant for the casual use that the GT-2160 will see out these days, it’s still good to know that it’s looking after its wearers’ feet.
Launching the GT-2160 is a trio of colourways that could’ve easily dropped 10-plus years ago. There’s the on-trend white and silver with accent colour, plus a daring ‘Illusion Blue’ edition that’s very ASICS. They’ll be available from July 7.
