ASICS Taps Angelo Baque to Lead 'The ASICS Collective,' A New Collaboration Initiative
Former brand director and current head of Angelo Baque has added another title to his resume: leader of ' 'The Asics Collective.' A collaboration-focused lifestyle initiative, 'The ASICS Collective' features four collaborators hand-picked by Baque, each of whom has released or will release their own collaborative sneaker with the brand.
Baque kicked 'The ASICS Collective' off in July with the release of his GEL-Kayano 14 'Rebirth of Cool,' and Denim Tears founder Tremaine Emory recently added to the roster with a duo of clay-coloured takes on the GEL-MC Plus that nodded to the dirt roads of his childhood home in Harlem, GA.
Three other members make up 'The ASICS Collective' roster – Procell Vintage co-founder Jess Gonsalves, who has created an airy take on the GEL-Kinsei 9, Born x Raised founder Chris "Spanto" and Bronx-based photographer Renell Medrano.
'This project is an opportunity for me to bring some of my closest friends together and challenge them to design something new, something outside of their general wheelhouse,' said Baque. 'Tremaine, Spanto, Jess and Renell are all members of my creative community. They continuously push boundaries in their respective industries and serve as inspirations for me in my own life. I’m excited for everyone to see their ideas come to fruition.'
Emory's GEL-MC Plus —pictured above — is available now via the Denim Tears webstore and will see a global drop on October 15. Gonsalves, Spanto and Medrano will all see their shoes released in 2022.
