Awake NY and Vans Craft Checkerboard-Covered Sk8-Hi Collection
Angelo Baque's have collaborated with , and before, but now the Big Apple-based brand is going bi-coastal: they're linking up with for three takes on the .
Done up in blue/red, green/blue and pink/black colourways, each with a bold checkerboard print pattern, the collection uses Batik swatches for a uniquely worn-in look. This weathered look is achieved by a combination of digitally printed patterns and wax-resistant dyes, a high-tech combination to make something look like it's been used for years! Other special details are supplied by edge-painted side stripes and Awake NY's flowing script logo, debossed on the forefoot.
All three styles are spotlighted in a lookbook that stars rapper, Griselda Records founder and designer Westside Gunn. The lookbook's personal connection to Baque runs deep: it was shot by his good friend Shaniquwa Jarvis, who's also part of his '' initiative.
'It’s exciting that Awake NY can serve as a conduit between the East and West Coasts,' says Baque. 'As with all our collaborations, the community is the foundation. We’re looking forward to working with Fresh Youth Initiatives, and Children of Promise, NY. With the power of Vans, Greenhouse, and Foot Locker behind us, we’re truly able to make a difference.'
Expect the Awake NY x Vans Sk8-Hi collection to see a staggered rollout, dropping on the Awake NY webstore October 15 before hitting Greenhouse on October 20 and eventually reaching Foot Locker stores by October 22.
