BEAMS and Clarks Splash Out New Wallabee GORE-TEX Colab
, the , and are a tantalising trio. The OG Japanese chimeric brand has again linked up with the Somerset shoemakers for a very utilitarian collaboration that houses plenty of subtly flexing features.
Starting from the soles up, the usual crepe rubber slab that defines most Clarks kicks is swapped for a street-friendly unit. Crepe may be cool, but the Christy (with extra flex grooves) is grippy, durable and isn’t as attractive to dirt. This tonal navy sole is matched to fine suede uppers that emphasise the Wallabee’s classic moc-toe style.
In typical BEAMS fashion, some of this colab’s best bits are beneath the surface. There’s a embedded under the suede – hold on, isn’t suede a terrible material to use with a waterproof membrane? Fret not, the uppers have been treated with DWR (Durable Water Repellent), meaning any wayward rain splashes and liquid should bead right off. It’s very satisfying to watch.
Staying on the inside, the leather-lined insoles are gold-foil stamped with both Clarks and BEAMS typography to denote the collaborative effort. This is matched on the outside with two individually branded swing tags. Very classy.
The BEAMS x Clarks Wallabee GORE-TEX is available now for pre-order directly from BEAMS, with delivery taking place in April. As of last month, they now also ship internationally – get ready for perpetually lighter wallets.
