Ceeze Customises Rolex-Inspired Air Jordan 1
Some sneakerheads may be put off by the rife reselling and exorbitant prices of hyped shoes in the market, but spare a thought for those into luxury wristwatches such as Rolex. Their Daytona model has been one of the most difficult offerings to acquire at retail, and used examples on the secondary market easily ask double of RRP – with pristine vintage examples even fetching millions. So, while heads are hot for the watch, perhaps custom inspired by the green livery of Rolex packaging is the next best thing.
Like many sneaker customisers, Ceeze is well acquainted with the Air Jordan 1 as a base for bespoke creations. His take involves remaking the upper from luxury materials; in this case, matte gator skin is an appropriate calibre of hide to suit a Rolex sneaker. These panels, overlaid on the toe bumper, eye stays and heel counter, are met with tonal green suede on the mid panel and toe box. Each section is trimmed in gold, reflecting the goldfoil stamping of Rolex watch pouches and boxes. To add more contrast, black appears on the laces, sharkskin Swoosh and ankle collar. The Rolex coronet logo shows up on the tongue logo, which is lit up by yellow leather lining.
At $3350, this made-to-order custom is certainly a lot cheaper than buying an actual Rolex Daytona, which retails at over $13,000 – and readily hits six figures on the secondary market. The AJ1s are available to purchase on Ceeze.
