Chopova Lowena Bring Expert Artistry to the ASICS GEL-QUANTUM VIII
are leading the pack when it comes to boundary-pushing designs, with collaborators like blazing the trail with her highly adorned sports sneakers. Now following in her artistic footsteps is Chopova Lowena, a fashion brand dedicated to the intersection of folklore and sportswear with a focus on sustainability and craftsmanship. They’ve brought their nuanced and anthropological approach to design to a range of custom via ASICS’ program. The purpose of the program is to highlight artists’ creativity, attention to detail, and expertise, as the program allows the collaborator to use their own fabrication and production techniques on the customisation.
Rhinestones, buckles, butterflies, and flowers embellish the sports shoes turned art, with black, white and pink GEL-QUANTUMs used. While most of the designs are created with silver ornaments, pops of a brilliant gold come through on two of the pairs. There have also been moderations made to the actual structure of the silhouettes, with some taking on a Mary-Jane look thanks to the removal of the laces and tongue. On the designs, Chopova Lowena says, ‘the shoes exemplify the imagination and toughness of the collection, ensuring that all members of our Chopova Lowena club have a radically cool and comfortable sneaker to carry them through their days’. While they are fully functional shoes, they are also pieces of art and Dover Street Market appropriately warn buyers that they are ‘To be worn at your own risk’.
Limited quantities have already sold out on Dover Street Market , but don’t fret, as they are also launching in the London store on Thursday, September 19. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the 999 Club - The Bridge, which is a mental health charity in South East London.
