Concepts’ New Converse Colab Spans the History of Basketball
Boston sneaker legends are known for their epic storytelling when it comes to their colabs, and their upcoming collection is no different. Showing the home state love, Concepts pays homage to the role both Boston and Converse have played in the history of basketball.
It was back in 1891 that James Naismith penned the original 13 rules for the game that would go on to become a global phenomenon, and it was a mere 26 years later that fellow Bay Staters Converse debuted the All Star in 1917.
The upcoming double play from Concepts sees them home in on the peach baskets used in original gameplay. The is dressed in juicy red and orange, while a platinum-suede mimics peach fuzz. Concepts’ Deon Point says of the unique fabrication:
‘It was difficult tracking down something that had the burnished suede feel as well as colouration, but Converse did an amazing job of ensuring the material felt like an actual peach’
From the design that started it all, to the 21st century evolution of Converse Basketball, the wears shades of green that nod to the unripe fruit. Elsewhere, shaggy laces add more fuzz, and Concepts branded sockliners bear a peach-blossom print. Now that’s turning a theme up to 11!
A collaboration that truly encapsulates the history and the future of Converse Basketball, the Chuck 70 and All Star BB Evo will be available from Concepts and Converse retailers from January 28.
