Converse Craft the Chuck 70 Canvas LTD Hi with Ripple Soles
The is a wonderfully simple sneaker, but it seems to be pretty adaptable for more ambitious experiments in most cases. Enter the Chuck 70 Canvas LTD Hi, which takes a leaf from the adjacent world of cobbling and adds a welted ripple sole to the high-top variant of the popular design.
Traditional shoemaking is not a foreign concept for the Chuck, at least unofficially. Experimental cobblers such as Recouture have routinely added goodyear welts, extended foxing strips, layered midsoles, and Vibram outsoles to the model for years. Did the increasing popularity of this mod perhaps spur Converse to do something in-house? Perhaps; perhaps not.
What the brand has done here is use the standard ‘Black’ and ‘Egret’ canvas uppers, and added a thick leather band around the midsole, to then which a contrasting tan welt is sewn to a stacked sandwich of foam that then joins a rubber ripple sole. The colour-blocking is meant to resemble the original midsole’s layout, albeit now with at least an extra inch of height. Finishing touches include rawhide leather laces and the classic black ‘license plate’ heel bumper logo.
The Converse Chuck 70 Canvas LTD Hi is available now in two colourways from SVD.
