Crocs and Alife Take 'Dad Chic' to a Whole New Level
New York streetwear stalwarts are looking to cash-in on the normcore phenomenon by teaming up with the deities of dad fashion, Crocs (yes, you read that correctly). The perforated plastic slip-on has long-been a symbol of dagginess, but we can’t imagine your uncle Bob rocking these at the next family BBQ.
The Croc-with-a-sock concept has been taken to new heights, with a built-in sock slip-on the star of the upcoming collaboration.
‘This style was born from part fashion trend, part hood reality, and the want of touching upon my youth,’ says Alife founder Rob Cristofaro. ‘The tube sock was a staple for me while growing up in New York in the 1970s. In the boroughs of New York, you would see kids rocking socks with the adidas slides. The concept was really to take something as next-level as a Croc, and mix it with these elements.’
The Alife x Crocs pack comprises the ‘Sport’ Croc with built-in white tube socks, a ‘Classic’ Croc in grey with Alife branding, and a tech-heavy ‘Art’ Croc, which features removable 3D-printed ‘Jibbitz’ (ornaments to customise your Croc uppers) of New York City’s most famous landmarks.
