DIY: Stick Your Own Patches on the Taka Hayashi x Vans Vault Sk8-Hi and Old Skool
Long-time collaborator latest take on the and classics are perhaps the most unique yet: you can ‘Design It Yourself’! The colab achieves this by supplying numerous Velcro patches that can be attached to any portion of the shoes’ uppers. Stick them straight, or go totally nonsensical – the choice is yours!
Both the Sk8-Hi and Old Skool are simply blacked-out without any patches attached. Their uppers are completely made of the loop side of the Velcro, and contrast stitching provides an approximate guide to align the patches to the panels. Of course, there’s no obligation to follow those conventions, as demonstrated above. There’s a mixture of animal patterns, military camo prints, bright colours, and branded patches to choose from, each corresponding to a particular area of the upper. Want to stick some eyestays across the heel panel? Sure, why not.
Interestingly, some of the supplied patches can help ‘transform’ these Vans into other iconic models from the assortment. The Sk8-His come with Half Cab labels and panels, while the Old Skools can effectively be converted into Slip-Ons by using the toe and tongue shroud.
The Taka Hayashi x Vans Sk8-Hi and Old Skool (or Half Cab and Slip-On, if you wish) is available now from Billy’s Tokyo.
