At first glance, this latest release from  can be pretty difficult to wrap your head around. In collaboration with , the Stripes have brought their  runner out from the archives. The New York was a staple sneaker on the Big Apple's streets back in the 80s. It's not often that adidas retro the model, so it's always exciting to see it resurface. This time, however, the release comes with a wee twist.

The collaborators have brewed up a New York that honours both the model's history and Hanon's proud Scottish heritage. In the design stage, adidas obviously made sure that the key features of their NY runner were retained. The OG silhouette hasn't been altered, the classic 'New York' text remains on the upper stripe, and sole accents in 'Originals Blue' hark back to adidas' early days.

In a win for Scotland, this 'Dark Storm' colab is predominately inspired by the country's famously inclement weather. A woven jacquard upper fades from black to grey to white, with Hanon claiming it reflects the storm clouds that roll in from across the Atlantic. If there's anything New Yorkers and the Scots can bond over, it's surely the weather. Three extra sets of laces have been thrown into the shoebox for good measure.

The highlight of this cloudy colab is certainly Hanon's homage to the Standing Stone in Scotland's True Highlands. The landmark features a poetic inscription, the first two lines of which are printed under the sneaker's protruding tongue.

'As still skies or storms unfold
Take a moment to behold
in sun, rain, sleet or snow
or warm your soul before you go'.

While Nike has put the  shade on regular rotation, this is – as far as we know – the first sneaker to explicitly derive inspiration from a specific stone. In any case, this must be the first time a poetry-engraved pillar has made its way into the sneakersphere! Enter the release raffle here.
