Don’t Be Afraid of the Jordan Zion 2 ‘Voodoo’
recently announced signature shoe is already tapping into creative colourways with the imminent arrival of the ‘Voodoo’. In spite of the occult energy conjured by the photography of retailer Sneaker Politics above, there’s nothing sinister about this pair. In fact, it carries deep cultural roots for Williamson.
This is because the rising basketball star calls New Orleans, Louisiana home, where he plays for the local NBA team, the Pelicans. However, there are no water birds to be found on these Jays; instead, there are plenty of namesake voodoo motifs. The practice runs far back into the history of NOLA and, contrary to its occasionally evil portrayal in the media, is believed to be a connection between the spiritual and physical world that can help cure – rather than cast – ailments.
So perhaps there is some symbolism with this pair for Williamson, who sat out the entirety of the 2021-22 NBA season due to injury – maybe the ‘Voodoo’ will aid his recovery. With his expected comeback next season, it’s likely he’ll be rocking the latest edition of his signature. For everybody else, they can wear this styled shoe by signing up to Sneaker Politics’ raffle before it ends on July 7.
