New Balance's Tokyo incubation lab has been up to something.

The brand's Tokyo Design Studio is responsible for some of the most innovative and forward-thinking designs to come from , including the recent Stone Island collaborations, as well as the Niobium sandal. Some time ago, Tokyo Design Studio tapped fellow Japanese brand Snow Peak to re-imagine the Niobium, which resulted in a crazy three-in-one design comprising a slipper, a sneaker, and a boot.

Now Junya Watanabe has been handed the reigns, getting his own chance to take on the Niobium. The result is a hyper-technical design featuring a Vibram sole unit, Fidlock buckles, and a removable heel strap featuring Watanabe branding.

These are reported to drop on October 1 from Tokyo Design Studio stockists like HAVEN, Bodega, Notre, and others.
