Kicks Lab Teach the adidas Campus Clean Colour-Blocking
Following their earlier this year, Japanese boutique have delivered another collaboration. The latest release in their ongoing partnership sees muted and tonal shades of brown and black, following similar conventions to the last drop.
Campuses have previously been released in brown – one was even an overt reference to chocolate – but Kicks Lab have spent plenty of time with the Pantone colour chart to pick out the right shade. They’re simply calling it ‘Maroon’, but its shade is much more complex than the name suggests. With the nap brushed one way, it’s a flat purple-brown, but in the other direction it’s closer to dark chocolate. The deliberate use of black on the leather stripes, heel tab, laces, and outsole is an exercise in tonality that’s also contrasting. Quite a masterful move, TBH.
Furthermore, according to Kicks Lab, the dark suede colourway nods to the understated street style that Campus wearers emit, and it just so happens Japan is a particular leader in that sort of aesthetic.
As a bonus, a limited amount of patterned ‘Furoshiki’ cloths designed by local artist and Kicks Lab collaborator MHAK (aka MasaHiro AKutagawa) will be distributed with this Campus.
The Kicks Lab x adidas Campus releases on November 21 via Kicks Lab locations. And international customers will be able to buy them from the webstore, as they offer a global shipping service. Great!
