Kansas City illustrator Micah Lidberg teams with Lacoste Live for a crazy new capsule collection! A lover of colours and patterns, Lidberg lavishes these low-cut Lacostes in a high-voltage smack of black, purple and yellow with fiery red laces and animal-print panels. The sneakers will be joined by Lidberg-laced tees, polos, tanks and more in mens and womens styles. Look for the Lacoste Live x Micah Lidberg collection in July, and get to know the artist in Lacoste's interview below!

COULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR WORK?
My work tends to be very colorful, elaborate, and full of motion. Since I was a kid, I’ve always enjoyed drawing creatures and environments. That’s still a strong theme in my work. I'm shaken up by nature - every bit of it. It's certainly a very deep and very wide thing. With nature, there's plenty of room to explore and plenty to share.

WHY DID YOU START MAKING ART? WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO CREATE?
I’m not sure why I started making art. I know that it’s something that has always been with me. I think my interest in art might have something to do with my curiosity about the world. When I’m making something, it feels like a way to think about the universe and my feelings about it. My work has always felt like a form of play.

WHAT ARE YOUR PARTICULAR AREAS OF INTEREST?
It’s hard to say, I’m interested in a lot of things. I really love science and natural history, but I also love fine art, industrial design, architecture, fashion, and philosophy. They’re all disciplines that seem really distinct and separate, but I think they’re all trying to engage questions about the world and life. That’s something that interests me very much.

FOR YOU, WHAT IS THE LINK BETWEEN ART AND FASHION?
I think both art and fashion are looking to create new experiences for us. They both use color, material, composition and energy to make something new in the world. I think that’s a deeply human drive and why we love art and fashion so much.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT LACOSTE L!VE?
LACOSTE is a brand that I’ve loved for a long time. My personal style tends to gravitate towards lots of classic and simple pieces paired with an element of something fantastic and energetic. LACOSTE is great about providing both those things. I think LACOSTE L!VE is a really great, youthful brand. It’s built around a classic aesthetic but embraces invention. I think that’s something my generation is looking for today.

WHAT WERE YOUR FIRST THOUGHTS WHEN INVITED TO COLLABORATE BY LACOSTE L!VE?
LACOSTE asked me to really just be myself in the collection.... Depending on the occasion, I like being clean and simple or really elaborate and explosive. This was a moment to just go wild. I had a lot of fun with it! I wanted it to be a fun and colorful collection. Something that embraces youthfulness. A lot of chaos and energy but also a lot of optimism and happiness.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE THE CAPSULE COLLECTION YOU CREATED FOR LACOSTE L!VE?
I wanted my collection to have some elements of familiarity but, at the same time, reflect the energy and optimism that’s happening now. I’ve used a lot of bright color and motion and it’s filled with absurd creatures and stories. It’s a little bit of my favorite things from when I was a kid, and a lot of the attitude I love today. There are some gems from childhood - Dinosaurs, Flying Saucers, Jungles, Unicorns... And I reinterpreted the classic RENE shoe with animal prints. I wanted to make a collection that was for the young at heart. For me, being an adult has nothing to do with being ‘older’. Old just means you’ve lost your sense of wonder.

WHAT IS UNCONVENTIONAL CHIC FOR YOU?
Unconventional Chic for me is about being content and comfortable with who you are, and integrating and respecting the world around you. It’s a very beautiful and rare balance.
