Made in France: Opium x Le Coq Sportif R1000 Limited to 450 Pairs
Vibing off the success of past link-ups with the likes of , and , Le Coq Sportif are back to flex their collaborative clout once again, teaming up with Parisian retailer Opium to launch a limited edition .
Inspired by the Freestyle — a pair of mountain bike shoes from Le Coq Sportif’s archives — the collaboration is a tribute to Parisian youth, as embodied by Opium’s three founders, Mounir, Yace and Farid. As you’d expect, all pairs are Made in France and come individually numbered in a special black and gold box.
Premium smooth leather, period nylon, micro-perforated suede, and nubuck don the upper, with pink and purple panels paying homage to the Freestyle’s OG shades. A cement grey heel is a reference to L’écoute — the stone sculpture in the heart of Châtelet-Les Halles where Mounir, Yace and Farid would meet before going to graffiti the streets of Paris. The trio’s handiwork comes printed on the insoles, while a distinctive phosphorescent outsole is a work of art in itself. The final touches come via Le Coq Sportif and Opium logos embroidered in gold and purple on the tongue and rear, and a classy ‘France’ dubrae on the laces.
Limited to just 450 pairs, the Opium x LCS R1000 ‘Made in France’ drops at select retailers globally on March 9.
