Maison Margiela and Reebok Go Gladiator in the Classic Leather Tabi High
The radical partnership between and is literally reaching new heights as they’re releasing a high-cut version of their already divisive Classic Leather Tabi. If the eponymous Tabi split toe feature was already sparking debates, then the extra height, strap, and cut outs will only add fuel to the fire. But, as the previous releases have proven, there is definitely an audience out there for them.
Starting with the familiar base of the Classic Leather, the signature split toe detail is added to the front with a fairly deep recess to enable flexibility. While the market is still getting acquainted with that Margiela modification, the collaborators carry on as planned by extending the ankle collar to shin-hugging heights. For additional support, an adjustable Velcro strap has been added to the top of the ankle collar – or it could be totally cosmetic. Toe aside, turning a low-cut into a sneaker boot isn’t that wild, so Margiela and Reebok ensure it is by cutting out select panels along the ankle and midfoot to expose the insides. Which will be socks or skin, depending on the wearer.
There will be four editions of the Maison Margiela x Reebok Classic Leather Tabi High. Three are tonal leather colourways in black, white and red – fairly straightforward. However, the fourth option, the ‘Bianchetto’, is a flaky, chipping white mess of handpainted enamel that’ll wear away to reveal a smoky finish underneath.
The Maison Margiela x Reebok Classic Leather Tabi is available now directly from Reebok.
