Maison Margiela Reworks Reebok Classics in ‘Memory Of’
ongoing partnership sees a new collection of classic models remade in ‘Memory Of’ their original form. This radical modification of the , and Zig 3D Storm features Margiela’s famous ‘decortiqué’ method, whereby seams are unpicked and restitched to reveal the inner workings of previously hidden panels. This reveals lesser noticed details on these popular models and presents them in a new light, in spite of their monochromatic white and black colourways.
Starting with the Question Mids – perhaps the first time the model has been collaborated to this calibre – the heel tabs are exploded to reveal jagged edges and foam underneath, while its distinct lace loops are removed from the sides and instead relocated to the middle of the tongue. The ‘3’ usually found on the heel outsole accent is replaced with ’22’ in reference to Margiela.
The Instapump Fury is relatively more familiar with high fashion colabs, but this version is still one of its most unique as its toe box is lifted slightly and the rest of the distinct model is expanded to emphasise its complex structure.
Finally, the Zig 3D Storm, which is perhaps somewhat an unexpected model for Margiela to work with, looks particularly stealthy in its solid colours. The tongue gets split open to subtly change the silhouette, while premium materials elevate the design.
The new Maison Margiela x Reebok ‘Memory Of’ collection will be available from Margiela and Reebok on May 20.
