’s wedge-heeled trail runner was met with indifference when it launched in 1996. Undeterred, Shigeyuki Kunii, creative director of mita sneakers, unlocked its hidden potential when he brought in the HECTIC crew to add some Japanese spice to a triple-headed collaboration release. 20 years after the OG hit the street, New Balance has invited Kunii, along with HECTIC co-founders Naotake Magara and Yoshifumi Egawa, to once again tackle the 580. In this updated ‘MRT’ form, the REVlite-injected silhouette rocks a fresh tricolour make-over, with ripstop and taped edges adding a modern spin. This is one partnership that only gets better with age!
