Lana Rhoades and Son Milo Are MSCHF ‘Super Babies’
doesn’t just cook up apparel that causes a double-take, they also package their product with unique storytelling that might make you lose your morning coffee. For their latest sneaker creation, the Brooklyn-based art collective are truly testing their limits. The launch of their cartoonishly chunky sneaker, ‘Super Baby’, enlists retired adult film star Lana Rhoades and her son Milo as models – and MSCHF have really out-mischief’d themselves with the imagery on this one.
Google Rhoades's name in Incognito mode if you haven’t heard her name before, but the short version is that she’s an American podcaster, social-media influencer, and former adult film actress. After retiring from the adult film industry in 2021, she announced a seemingly unexpected pregnancy on Instagram. Once her son Milo was born in 2022, speculation about who his father was hit a fever-pitch, and the most prominent rumour, including fake Instagram stories, theorised that star Blake Griffin was the mystery dad. While Rhoades has kept the father’s identity private, she and MSCHF do appear to be stirring the pot with the accompanying images for the ‘Super Baby.’
Never content with just releasing a shoe, every MSCHF release blends performance art and fashion. As always, that is the case here in the brand’s signature flair. The lifestyle shoot by photographer James Orlando features Rhoades and Milo rocking adorable mother and son ensembles, including each colourway of the sneaker. One shot in particular appears to be a direct reference to the Blake Griffin rumour, with Milo modelling the ‘Oscar’ colourway in a junior basketball uniform while balancing a child-sized ball on his finger. Meanwhile his mother holds a knowing gaze at the camera while leaning against a mini ‘MSCHF’ branded basketball hoop…
Launching in early December, the 'Super Baby' collection will arrive in three colourways. Designed for adults but inspired by baby footwear, there’s the white and red ‘Oscar’, the colourful and Buzz Lightyear-esque ‘Ollie’, and the reflective silver and pink ‘Olivia’. It’s not just the photoshoot that’s playful, as the design itself is littered with tongue-in-cheek details. The stocky silhouette for all three colourways features a textile base and synthetic leather uppers with a star shaped window peeking out from the midsole, evoking the thick-bodied sneaker shapes of and . The ‘Super Baby’ branding on the heel and tongue of the ‘Oscar’ and ‘Ollie’ seems to be a mischievous wink to Little Tikes and Toys R Us, with the ‘Olivia’ model seemingly drawing inspiration from the Barbie logo.
The ‘Super Baby’ will be available on December 5 in a limited run. Pairs can be scored by entering a 2pm ET draw on and on the MSCHF Sneakers app. Each colourway is set at the retail price of $250.
