MSCHF’s New Air Force 1-Inspired Sneaker is ‘Super Normal’

Update June 14, 2022: MSCHF have revealed the lookbook for their forthcoming Super Normal sneaker! 'Super Normal' in name only, the warped 'n' wavy Air Force 1-style silhouette is spotlighted in a lookbook that was shot at two famous NYC restaurants: Wo Hop, a longstanding staple in Manhattan's Chinatown neighbourhood and Lucien, a French joint in downtown Manhattan that Vice once dubbed 'the New York art world's go-to bistro.' MSCHF is the Brooklyn-based creative agency that has garnered a reputation for breaking the internet. Their wild sneaker creations have gone viral, multiple times over and usually get close to breaching copyright laws. Their legal team has been busy over the past few years but more recently they’ve been cleaning up the after decided to sue! MSCHF’s trouble with the law hasn’t stopped the creative juices from flowing because their latest, dubbed ‘Super Normal’, has been revealed ahead of its release this month.
If the images above didn’t already give it away, the ‘Super Normal’ bears a striking resemblance to with similar overall shape, perforated toe, dubrae and panelling. Freaking it in the MSCHF way, the whole upper has been somewhat distorted in a a wavy shape with each panel being curved asymmetrically. Added branding details make their way to the wavy tongue, dubrae and lateral midsole.
Will Nike’s lawyers sue MSCHF for their ‘Super Normal’ sneaker? If the past can tell us anything and judging by how Team Swoosh act towards copy cats, we’re destined to see another sneaker courtroom showdown. However, with the absence of the Swoosh or Swoosh-like branding they may be able to skirt their way around it!
The MSCHF ‘Super Normal’ is ready to be released! It’s been scheduled for a drop on June 23 via the brand’s channels and will retail for $145.
