This New Balance 1500 is For the Esoteric

New Balance are continue to champion the 1500 in 2022, some 15 or so years since it reached the precipice as the IYKYK sneaker before the acronym even came into common use. Despite the renewed attention on the NB catalogue due to the proliferation of the sneaker scene, this new 1500 colourway stays out of the limelight and keeps a muted finish to be selected by those with esoteric tastes.

Suede and mesh is the default material selection for the best renditions of this model. So is the famed Made In England construction (which coincidentally celebrates its 40th year in 2022, which may explain why there are so many 1500s arriving this year). Here, fine grey nubuck mudguards and mid panels are reminiscent of OG NB design language, but dark navy heel counters, black trim and brown mesh inserts break away from usual conventions. The latter accent stands out against the rest of the upper, before meeting a blacked-out ENCAP sole unit that seamlessly melts into the silhouette. Adding an extra accent colour is the hits of white on the toe cap and midfoot portions of the outsole.

This latest New Balance 1500 will be available on September 8 from retailers including Asphaltgold and BSTN.
