The New Balance 1500 Gets Made in Japan for its 35th Birthday

Not many sneakers can boast that they’ve been on shelves for over three decades, but the can. Last year marked the legend's 35th anniversary and the organised a handful of tasteful releases to celebrate, including this latest Made in Japan edition.
The New Balance 1500 is usually made in the UK at the famous , but the occasion definitely calls for a special trip to Japan since NB have always reigned as kings in Nippon. New Balance first established their presence there during the early 90s with mega releases like the once-Japan-exclusive , and their dominance in the country was expanded with a focus on expert craftsmanship and the launch of the Tokyo Design Studio and their stunning T-HOUSE brick-and-mortar in Chuo City.
The Made In Japan 1500 represents what New Balance is best known for – quality craftsmanship, premium materials and tasteful colourways. The Made in JP iterations have been expertly handcrafted by Japanese shoe makers who have applied traditional techniques to perfect the timeless 1500 shape. The colourway releasing hosts a classic grey base layer that is complemented by pristine navy and golden accents.
Additionally for this celebratory iteration, New Balance employed a tie-dye technique that pays homage to the Japanese art of shibori for a select few pairs. The standard Made in JP iteration has been dyed all over to create one-of-one designs; however, this version (pictured above) will unfortunately not see a retail release.
This New Balance 1500 Made in Japan will hit shelves on February 20 in the 'Grey/Navy' colourway, so hit the link below to cop on the day!
