NB are able to exercise some material and palette creative license with this new batch of 1906Rs, opting for clean monochromatic finishes. The points of interest come by way of various textural expeditions via different textiles across the mesh and synthetic uppers. The women’s edition nods to the model’s OG performance spec with generous inclusions of spacer mesh underlays and sleek plastic external hardware. The original N-Lock midfoot system and ‘Sure’ laces are also specced as faithful reproductions of the 2009 pinnacle. Presented in tonal tan, this is a solid option for the ladies.
The other side of the collection eschews some athletic connotations and instead offers relaxed remakes with slightly more contrast and new fabrics. Mesh remains omnipresent, but these pairs use a weave more akin to twill, adding unique dimensionality. This accents against ridged strips that may or may not offer aerodynamic advantage optimised for walking speed, which lead the eye line to the coloured ABZORB inserts that promise cushioned support with every step. The N-Lock is also reprised here, but they’re bound by tightly woven flat laces – an unorthodox yet welcome inclusion on these grey and white pairs.
