Update September 7, 2022: Following the Japan-exclusive release, AURALEE’s New Balance 2002R collection will drop globally on September 10 at select retailers, including
Japanese label have announced their latest collaboration with on the . The model continues its run as the cooperative choice for brand partners worldwide, and, given AURALEE’s track record for strong releases across the NB catalogue, this will be another hit for them.
This time there will be two colourways on offer. One, simply named ‘White’, actually has a lot more going on. The leather and mesh upper is classic NB runner, but AURALEE add their signature muted touch via creamy colours and seemingly jarring combinations that somehow work well. Here, it’s pale green on the heel counter that meets a dusty brown trim. Similarly, the yellow and grey hits on the midsole shouldn’t work in theory, but paired up with the top makes it all work somehow. Likewise, the ‘Yellow Beige’ option is an even more cloying mixture of colours. It keeps a lot of the same colour-blocking as the ‘White’, but the front vamp takes on its namesake beige tone and also adds extra contrast with mustard laces.
Like previous AURALEE colabs, there are some hurdles to being one of the first to acquire a pair. They will release first in Japan via raffle at AURALEE and select New Balance locations on July 15, before a global release in August that’s yet to be finalised.
