Navy is Neat on the New Balance 2002R
The colour grey is often thrown around on shoes, but it’s sometimes forgotten that the brand has rolled with navy for decades, too. As the begins its rumoured victory lap before the grabs the baton, NB have decided it’s a better time than ever to use their mature model to remind the world of its navy nous.
Having been in the market for over two years, most should be familiar with the 2002R. For those needing a refresher, check out this brief history. In short, the former flagship NB runner from the last decade has been recontextualised with midsoles borrowed from the 860v2, and its uppers have been remade using more lifestyle-friendly materials. That’s demonstrated here with the suede and mesh construction appropriate for street use, and it’s doused in the deep blue shade. Of course, the brand can’t completely let go of their signature grey, so it shows up here on the toe cap overlays and ankle collar. Given the stately status of the model these days, the creamy, faux vintage treatment on the midsole is a fitting finish.
The 2002R in navy – officially known as ‘Eclipse’ – is available now directly from New Balance from sizes 4 to 15.
