Archival Runners Inspire This New Balance 2002R
The goes from strength to strength with the colourway count now in the dozens. Despite the unlimited combinations possible, this upcoming edition draws on previous work by the brand, but its repackaging still looks fresh on this model. This may be just another grey NB, but it’s a deeper cut that nerds will appreciate.
What this 2002R resembles is the and era models, with its ‘Limited Edition’ gold twist. This translates easily onto the 2002R, which sees leather overlays and fine mesh inserts dropped right onto the upper. Some navy overlays on the toe box, N logo and ankle collar provide another accent before gold adds extra shine to the finish. The midsole taps into triple tones of bone white, which is met by grey and navy heel padding and forefoot inserts. It’s underfoot where some of NB’s premier running tech (at least it was 10ish years ago) emerges: the Stability Web and NERGY compound deliver both support and cushioning.
This particular 2002R colourway is available over in Japan right now – where the aforementioned 1600 and 1700 have a cult following – but keep fingers crossed for a wider release around the rest of the world.
