'Night Tide' Washes Over the New Balance 2002R

It looks like New Balance are going to be absolutely steamrolling their 2002R in 2022, with a multitude of new colourways hitting the market right now. Freshly landed is this ‘Night Tide’ edition, a palette that definitely wouldn’t have ever hit the model during its original run in 2010. However, given that it’s now very much a lifestyle shoe, it gets to be a bit more daring with its presentation.

Adopting the luxurious ethos of its design, this 2002R uses a classic combo of suede and mesh, the latter using a different pattern to what’s been previously featured on the model. The same can be said for the suede, which appears shaggier than the more brushed surfaces found before. Beyond these textures is the interesting ‘Night Tide’ deep navy-purple that covers most of the upper, but is contrasted by quirky shades of teal and pale pink – a shade NB are calling ‘Au Lait’. These accents are also found on the midsole in the forefoot and heel inserts, plus the NERGY cushioning badge on the lateral side. And in typical NB style, there’s a bit of grey on the heel counter to break things up.
