The New Balance 550 ‘Shadow’ Sees Daylight
Empowered by the with Queens’ darling , the 550 has seen a resurgence of late, the vintage basketball sneaker now revealed in a classic black and white composition.
A hefty silhouette originally built for the hardwood, the New Balance 550 is perfectly suited to today’s sneaker zeitgeist, the stripped-back, chunky silhouette coherent to the ‘dad shoe’ trend still doing the rounds in 2020.
Subtly upgrading the 1980s silhouette with modern technological nous, the New Balance 550 ‘Shadow’ ostensibly takes cues from the classic ‘Shadow’. Manufactured with luxurious black leather uppers, the NB 550 then sees hits of grey mesh on the heel tab, while a grey toe box adds further visual hierarchy to the design. Finally, black and grey colour-blocking breaks up the outsoles nicely.
