Pastel Tones Coat This Supima Cotton New Balance 992
have just released another featuring Supima cotton in place of its usual mesh arrangement. Unlike the fairly tonal that dropped late last year, this edition spills the entire box of Crayolas and pummels the upper a full spectrum of pastel colours.
Firstly, here are some quick points about Supima. It’s a prized variety of cotton grown only in America and makes up less than one per cent of the world’s total crops. Thanks to its extra-long fibres, it has a luxurious feel and retains colour better – perfect for these very vibrant 992s.
The mixture of powder blue, yellow, aqua, pink and green is certainly not a combination the 992 would have ever been in contact with during its original run in 2006. Now that it’s a lifestyle model, it’s able to experiment with more playful palettes such as this one, and perhaps even is an early indicator or reference to an Easter edition.
By the way, these 992s are not entirely made from Supima – that’s only on the toe box and ankle collar inserts. The remainder of the uppers are still the fine pigskin suede the model, and the rest of NB’s premium models, are known for.
The Supima New Balance 992 is available now directly from New Balance.
